Beyoncé and Taylor Swift Help Spotify Wrap Up 2024
So many stars, so much data
It’s the most Spotify time of the year, when mega-stars and data points shine like holiday lights, putting the past 12 months of music, podcasts and entertainment in shiny perspective.
In other words, the streamer dropped its annual EOY “Wrapped” campaign, rolling out billboards and digital assets celebrating our collective obsession with tunes, pop culture and celebrity.
As you might expect, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Charli xcx, Shaboozey and many more appear, adorned by factoids galore to whet the appetites of fans across the globe.
Some tidbits:
- Taylor reigned as Spotify’s top global artist, with 26.6 billion streams. The Weeknd placed second, followed by Bad Bunny, Drake and Billie Eilish.
- Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” was the most-streamed song. Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” followed.
- The top-3 albums: Taylor’s Tortured Poets Department, Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft and Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet.
- The Joe Rogan Experience was the No.1 podcast. Call Her Daddy and The Huberman Lab rounded out the top 3.
- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas tallied as the leading audiobook. Next in line: J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring and Jeanette McGury’s I’m Glad My Mom Died.
Notably, campaign assets playfully tweak Spotify’s logo. Below, for instance, it’s coffee foam. This nods to the brand’s ubiquity, straddling the physical and digital realms as most folks’ go-to steamer.
“Our annual thank-you to fans around the world, Spotify ‘Wrapped’ has become deeply ingrained in the lives of music fans worldwide,” says brand VP, partnerships and marketing Mark Hazan in press materials.
“What started as a look back at the music and audio that defined the year has become a global cultural phenomenon in its own right,” he says. “We’re thrilled to debut 2024 Spotify Wrapped to more fans than ever before this year, celebrating the hundreds of millions of ways that they’ve streamed.”
That’s not hyperbole. It’s nice to know there’s a gaudy bauble to unwrap in December, helping us share our frivolous (and cherished!) pursuits when the world can feel so harsh and uninspired.
