'Working for the Weekend' Is an IHOP Jingle Now

Loverboy returns for a rockin' (and ridiculous) remake

“You want a piece of my toast?
That’s why we love you the most.
You wanna be in the show?
Come on IHOP let’s go!”

Loverboy remade their classic rocker “Working for the Weekend” to power a riotously ridiculous ad for IHOP.

Developed by Pereira O’Dell, the work touts the chain’s Monday through Friday “House Faves” menu, with various items available for $6-7 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

We get “Working for the Weekday,” performed by IHOP syrup dispensers dressed as the band:

Note the superbly silly details: playing keyboards with a fork, the trademark Loverboy bandana. The ’80s will never die!

In press materials, Loverboy singer Mike Reno calls the project “a dream come true.” (It’s the most relevant he’s been since the first George Bush was in office, at any rate.)

Trevor Shepard directed, recreating scenes from the band’s 1981 music video pretty darn faithfully. With syrup caddies. The way it was always meant to be.

IHOP CMO Kieran Donahue cited the brand’s desire to satisfy its customers’ hunger for nostalgia as a key motivation for the gig.
