Shaboozey, Nerds Channel Louis Armstrong for Big Game

Is it still a wonderful world?

Thanks to Shaboozey, it’s not the same old song.

For Nerds’ Super Bowl commercial, the hottest star in the country music firmament reinterprets Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.”

This surely ranks as one of the most overused tracks in the history of mass media. And yet, somehow, against all odds, Shaboozey puts a fresh spin on the too-familiar pop standard.

Through the years, familiarity rendered the tune’s life-affirming sentiments sugary sweet and all too easy to ignore. But Shaboozey’s relaxed, percussive take unlocks layers of soul. Now, it’s almost an Americana singalong, putting the hopeful lyrics in a modern, relatable context.

True to his Grammy-winning style, the artist blends musical flavors for the candy brand to craft a compelling confection.

In the spot, which also features Nerds’ animated mascots, Shaboozey strolls through New Orleans, site of SB59. It’s also Armstrong’s hometown, which adds extra notes of resonance.

Digitas Chicago helped develop the campaign.
