Capital One Casts John Travolta as Santa Claus

This Kringle gets down on the dance floor

Look who’s coming to town!

John Travolta reprises his famous sidewalk strut and disco moves from Saturday Night Fever in a holiday spot created by GSD&M for Capital One.

It’s exactly like his performance in the 1977 milestone flick. But not.

The superstar still uses his Bee-Gees-powered walk to devastating effect. And Donna Pescow, his co-star in the movie, makes an appearance.

But now, JT’s got some time to talk—and flashes the brand’s Quicksilver card for local merchants.

Also, John’s less of a “woman’s man” than during the Carter era. Perhaps that’s because he’s dressed as Santa Claus:

Travolta played Kringle for Cap One in 2020, too. That one lampooned his turn in Pulp Fiction. And he memorably spoofed his Grease persona in a musical Super Bowl commercial this year.

Such pre-internet nostalgia still resonates—like a thumping bassline and wailing falsetto—for viewers young and old. And when the man himself pays homage, it’s absotively alright and OK by us!

“There is definitely a common theme and approach with most holiday commercials and it’s easy for all of those to blend together,” GSD&M SVP, group CD Ryan Carroll tells Muse. “While try to pull at the heartstrings, we wanted to create a different vibe. Something fun, playful and memorable. A spot that would reward you for watching it over and over to pick up on some of the Easter egg references. And it doesn’t hurt to have the coolest Santa on the planet recreating one of the most iconic movie openings ever.”

Commercial veteran Bryan Buckley directed.
