Deutsche Telekom Made a Sweet Snow-Globe Film for the Holidays
Plus: Ariana Grande parties with Swarovski and more Euro gems
We’re going to lead with “Bubbles” from Deutsche Telekom in Germany. Created by MUW Saatchi & Saachi, there’s heavy tension in this work featuring two little girls in mythical worlds. They just want to play, but are divided by a glass barrier. The gifts they ultimately offer each other power a literal breakthrough. Some cinematic food for thought during the holiday and election seasons.
Thanksgiving’s near at hand … and with it, Black Friday, an orgy of sales, or so we think. Skincare brand The Ordinary, beloved of Gen Z, is working with Amsterdam-based Soursop to warn people about “Cheap Creep.” That’s when sales hype gets you buying things you otherwise wouldn’t. It asks provocative questions like “Limited edition or scarcity scare?” and “FOMO or promo?” This is designed to promote “Slowvember,” when folks shop mindfully instead of trampling strangers outside Walmart at 5 a.m. Outdoor will go live in the U.S., U.K. and Canada, along with spreads in The Guardian and New York Times.
It’s not often we imagine a box bringing people closer together. But if anything can do it, it’s pasta! For the recent World Pasta Day, Barilla took aim at the 60 percent of city-dwellers who typically eat solo. The “Togetherness Ticket” is a pasta box that doubles as a subway pass. Barilla hopes riders will take it along when they visit friends and family a few stops yonder. By Le Pub in partnership with the NYC subway.
Here’s a nice little exercise in sadism. In this work by Buzzman Paris, a man eats what appears to be a pork sandwich in front of a twitchy pig. But wait! This “pork” product is from La Vie, so it’s 100-percent plant-based! Whew. “Pork is dead,” the ad concludes.
We’ll wrap with something swanky. Ariana Grande accompanies us to Swarovski’s “Party of Dreams” in Austria, presented by agency Zenith. It’s all glitz and glamour without any singing, which could be a pro or a con, depending on where you land with the artist.
