'Name This Oreo' Game Unlocks Discounts

Ties in with Kroger

Leveraging the mystique of how Oreo got it’s name—the “O” from cookies and “RE” from cream—the brand just launched a game called “Name This Oreo.”

A site, from VML N.Y., tasks players with reading unique Oreo flavor combinations aloud. By speaking each one correctly before time runs out, players can score discount coupons for Oreo products at Kroger supermarkets.

The video below shows how it’s done:

“We noticed a trend on social how Oreo lovers had playfully taken a name-origin theory and gave a nod to this playful language and turned it into voice-enabled promo codes,” says Manuel Borde, global CCO, commerce, at VML. “By successfully completing the gamified experience, consumers will get an offer to save on Oreo cookies.”

The game is running through January across social media, influencers, OOH and at Kroger stores. The soundtrack was created by Sonido Antro with animation from Believe TV.
