Assante Wealth Spoofs Apple's Classic 'Get a Mac'
Still Not Retired? Mac and PC are here to help
Remember the Apple “Get a Mac” duo from the 2000s? Well, they’ve made a return after 15 years. Sort of.
Assante Wealth Management has re-cast “Mac” and “PC” for three ads running this fall. Titled “Still Not Retired,” the campaign focuses on preparing for one’s golden years.
The work falls within a larger platform, “What’s Your Plan,” designed to help people to consider their retirement needs.
Wunder worked with Accomplice Content Supply Co. on production. (TBWA/Chiat/Day created the original ads for Apple, which ran from 2006-09.)
Non-professional actors Andy Allen (Mac) and Stephen Feswick (PC) emerged as the solid, older lookalikes—replacing Justin Long and John Hodgman—who are still grinding out long work days as seniors. Mac reaches the realization that he should seek a financial advisor if he wants to retire. Stubborn PC attempts to plan for the future via spreadsheets.
Stephen Flynn, Wunder’s creative director, said the concept arose from asking, “How could we depict someone who never really had a plan for retirement?”
The three spots will run on TV and digital streaming, as well as across social channels.
“We’re always looking for ways to stand out and connect with our audience in a way that is unexpected, fun, and values their intelligence,” says Flynn. “Also, a talking head shot of an advisor or soothing voiceover trying to convincing you that you’re in good hands can sometimes have the opposite effect. And for that reason a lot of new clients typically come from word of mouth or referrals – we’re trying to change that.”
While there are no plans to film more Mac and PC spoofs, Assante other iconic characters may get a revival in similar fashion in the future, Flynn says.
