#WFH Diaries: Kacie Meixel of Levelwing

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the world, we’re checking in with folks in the creative industry to see how they’re doing. Here’s an update from Kacie Meixel of Levelwing in Charleston, S.C.

Give us a one-line bio of yourself.

I’m a go-to grammarist, creative architect, and big-picture thinker, helping Levelwing’s clients connect, contribute and communicate with the world.

Where are you living right now, and who’s with you?

I live in a house in Charleston, S.C., with a neighbor on one side and construction on the other (the dump truck operator has apparently not yet shared his own #WFH Diaries with Muse by Clio). My husband and I inhabit separate spaces during the work day, but make the most of morning coffee and lunchtime.

What’s your work situation like at the moment?

My home office is in the least-used room of the house—a large space over the garage naively set up as a home gym. Levelwing’s culture has always promoted WFH when needed, so most of my team was already set up for success. We’ve been taking it day by day, helping brands proactively and appropriately respond to the current climate.

Describe your socializing strategy.

Outside of business hours, my socializing mainly consists of mild shoulder-popping from my back patio on TikTok. I call my grandmother to check in every Wednesday. And to date, I have not yet started a neighborhood porch dance party. But stay tuned.

How are you dealing with childcare, if applicable?

Our 1-year-old pup serves as the help desk for my husband’s IT department, and our cat documents my performance for my annual review.

What are you reading?

Currently tackling my 2019 resolution of reading more nonfiction with Tara Westover’s memoir, Educated, followed by a thousand other covers on my shelf yet to see the light of day.

What are you watching?

Designated Survivor (Netflix), Westworld (HBO) and my bonus guilty pleasure Love is Blind (Netflix).

What are you listening to?

Mostly chill acoustic covers on Spotify.

How are you staying fit?

Levelwing initiated a daily 60-on-60 movement challenge—a 60-second exercise to get the blood flowing on the hour, every hour. It’s meant to focus, re-engage, and move us forward. Join us. Patting myself on the back for the home office/gym setup now.

Have you taken up a hobby?

Truthfully, tarot card reading. I’ll be a full-on witch by the time we emerge.

Any tips for getting necessities?

Many local restaurants are bottling their cocktail mixes for curbside pickup—just add liquor. Hoping that this sticks around, post coronavirus.

An awkward moment since all this started.

Learning my husband’s work personality, and that he’s the “Gotcha” and “To be clear” king.

Best work email you got since all this started.

Not an email, but in an effort to bring humor to our weekly meetings, two guys from our team dress in suits and ties for “Formal Fridays” (thanks for that, Brady and Trevor). Also, shout-out to one of our account directors, Katie, who went full-on spa-mode in an internal Zoom meeting, complete with the background, towel and robe.

An aha! moment since all this started.

Your face is always extra itchy when you’re not supposed to touch it.

What’s your theory on how this is going to play out?

Many businesses will come out of this having learned how to adapt to a “new normal.”
