It's National Hat Day. Your Hair Looks Great. Time for a Clear Hat!
Sport Clips and Lids use their heads
Today is National Hat Day. Rather than choose to showcase great hair or a great hat, now you can highlight both.
Sport Clips Haircuts and Lids collabed to solve a nonexistent rivalry between head and hats—the Clear Hat. Now, both can share the spotlight equally. From Preacher, the Clear Hat takes shape in the spot below, “Rival-We,” running on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
“This started with a brief from Sport Clips to do something cool to make them more relevant in culture. They specifically wanted something non-traditional,” says Syd Solis, senior copywriter at Preacher. “Sport Clips gave us a wide-open brief that allowed Clear Hats to come to life. We pitched the idea to Lids, and luckily, they were interested. It was funny imagining these two brands being in competition for the real estate atop men’s heads since both brands work to show off a man’s personal style, but go about it in completely opposing ways.”
A kit was sent to influencers in the fashion, headwear and sports space that put the Clear Hat—”Hair’s Favorite Hat”—on display:
Fans can enter to win one of 100 Clear Hats on Instagram through Jan. 20. Offline, consumers at Lids will receive an MVP upgrade at Sport Clips Haircuts (massaging shampoo, hot steamed towel, and neck and shoulder treatment) those who get an MVP at Sport Clips can unlock a discount at Lids.
“My favorite moment in this whole process was the meeting when the Clear Hat became a real thing beyond just a Midjourney comp on a slide,” Solis tells Muse. “We hopped on a Zoom call with the Lids team to iron out details for this potential collaboration with Sport Clips. Prior to this, we weren’t sure if making this hat was a possibility. So it was very exciting when Adam (SVP of marketing and partnerships at Lids) surprised us all by wearing the very first prototype of the Clear Hat.”
