Adam Driver Performs Product Reviews to Hype Amazon's Black Friday
A banana slicer CAN change your life
When you get a serious actor to read outlandish (and very real) product reviews, subdued hilarity ensues.
Amazon tapped Adam Driver for “5-Star Theatre,” an extension of the brand’s “Joy Is Shared” campaign. Driver gives a rousing performance for products we never knew we wanted or needed—like a banana slicer that saved one couple’s marriage.
He also reviews a Dutch oven and a plush seal. Maybe one day he’ll take on Bic for Her pens.
Most of the products are on sale during Amazon’s Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday deals from Nov. 21 to Dec. 2.
“What these reviews have shown us is that some of our best writers are our customers, and we love how this campaign brings them into the spotlight,” says Jo Shoesmith, Amazon Global CCO. “The hardest part was finding a voice that could live up to them, and we were lucky to have a talent like Adam to bring their words to life. I mean, if watching an Oscar-nominated actor deliver a passionate monologue about a banana slicer doesn’t make you laugh, I don’t know what will.”
Produced in-house, the campaign is running on TikTok, Meta and Snapchat. Other venues include Thursday Night Football on Prime Video, A&E, Disney/Hulu, FOX/Tubi, Max, NBC/Peacock, Paramount, Samsung, Nexstar, Vevo and YouTube.
“What’s more compelling than the deeply personal, yet very public, Amazon review,” adds Driver in a statement. “Immortalized readings of the marriage saving qualities of a banana slicer? The nuances of rubber duck collecting? Nothing says the holidays like grabbing a glass of something and telling people what you really think. Merry Christmas to myself.”
