Verizon's 'Can You Hear Me Now?' Blasts Into Space
The ad's got Buzz. Legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin, that is
Land on the moon, and they’ll put you in commercials. That’s how the world goes ’round.
At 95, Buzz Aldrin—the second human to walk on another world—headlines a Verizon :60 harkening back to the brand’s famous “Can you hear me now?” campaign. Paul Marcarelli, the “Test Man” from those ads, reprises his role after more than a dozen years.
Paul’s so awesome, he doesn’t need a helmet to survive in the merciless vacuum of space:
The spot hypes Verizon’s ability to beat cellular dead zones through satellite tech. It debuted during last night’s Grammy Awards telecast. Gut developed the campaign. Calmatic directed.
When Marcarelli last played the Test Man character, “Dead zones were everywhere, and today they are only in the most remote places like the dark side of the moon,” he says. “Verizon’s always been on a mission to give its customers the very best experience, anticipate their changing needs and drive innovation.”
Adds Aldrin: “It’s remarkable to see how far the human race and technology have come.”
