Hannah Waddingham Revives Classic 'Love Boat' Tune for Princess Cruises

It's an open smile on a friendly shore

Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham is the face—and voice—steering a global brand campaign for Princess Cruises. She covers the iconic theme song from the The Love Boat as she enjoys amenities throughout the ship. If only we could fall asleep so soundly during a massage. Fun trivia tidbit: a Princess ship was the fictional setting for the ’70s TV fave.

The :60, from Terri & Sandy and directed by Hungry Man’s Dave Laden, is running in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia.

Waddingham has some backstory with the brand, as she was named “Godmother” of the Sun Princess cruise ship.

“Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and we knew Princess being the original Love Boat was the epitome of nostalgia for our target,” says Chris Cannon, CD at Terri & Sandy. “We had the idea to reimagine the Love Boat song for 2024. But we needed a charismatic icon with style and elegance that could represent the brand but can also belt out a tune in order to really bring it to life. Turns out we had her sitting under our nose the entire time.”

The campaign targets people 40 and over who are new to cruises. The team was originally “supposed to shoot the spot aboard the Sun Princess when hurricane Milton was about to hit Florida,” Cannon tells Muse. The agency delayed filming for two weeks to ensure smooth sailing.
