Mother Bird Is a Chicken-Restaurant Mascot in SNL's Creepy Take on the Momo Challenge

A comical take on the viral internet hoax

McDonald’s has Ronald. Burger King has The King. And Bok Bok? Well, Bok Bok has the creepiest mascot of them all.

SNL poked fun at the “Momo Challenge” viral internet hoax this weekend with a spoof commercial for fictional chicken chain Bok Bok—whose mascot is none other than Mother Bird, the terrifying human-bird hybrid who supposedly (but not really) has been popping up in children’s videos online and urging them to harm themselves or others.

As with anything Momo related, the spoof spot is itself pretty creepy, even though it’s almost amusing. Check it out below.

“We promise Bok Bok is not Momo in a chicken suit, and she’s definitely not tempting kids with chicken so she can steal their souls,” the voiceover says. “Bok Bok is all about bringing you juicy chicken, served hot and fast. And sure, like Momo, Bok Bok is a human-bird hybrid who loves the company of children. But who cares when the food is this good?”

That’s Kate McKinnon in the chicken suit, making Subservient Chicken look friendly but comparison.

For those who’ve been following the Momo hype (which has prompted emails to parents from just about every middle school in America), the sculptor of the creepy statue whose image became central to the challenge revealed last week that the statue no longer exists—having succumbed to natural degradation.
