#WFH Diaries: Freelance Creative Director Mark Moll

As coronavirus lockdowns linger worldwide, Muse is chatting with creative people to see how they’re faring. Below, we chat with freelance creative director Mark Moll.

Give us a one-line bio of yourself.

Outgoing, tall, kind, creative director, writer, and human.

Where are you living right now, and who’s with you?

Kansas City, with my wife Stephanie, my 6-year-old son Keegan, and our two cats Peter and Noodle. And here’s a little known fact: They’re all batshit crazy.

What’s your work situation like at the moment?

I’m proud to say that myself and hundreds of others in our industry formed The Art of Good to help small businesses with their marketing challenges during this time. I have an ongoing project with a pro football team to help with their branding. And staying in touch with people and searching for new opportunities.

Describe your socializing strategy.

I’m not sure that I’d describe it as a strategy, more that I just need human interaction outside of my family and those we pass in the park. IRL beats virtual, but if that’s all you have, you have to embrace it.

How are you dealing with childcare?

Childcare, ha. What’s that? We are locked in this apartment with this maniac.

What are you reading?

Hard to focus on anything these days other than CNN on my phone.

What are you watching?

Making the Cut on Amazon, Botched on E!, Real Housewives of New York and Beverly Hills on Bravo. We needed a break from Netflix so we dove in on other forms of “entertainment.”

What are you listening to?

It’s usually all over the place. My Spotify playlists don’t make any sense.

How are you staying fit?

Lots and lots and lots and lots of walks. 10,000 steps a day is the goal. Sometimes it ends up being much, much less.

Have you taken up a hobby?

My new hobby is trying to get off LinkedIn.

Any tips for getting necessities?

Tips? Grab as much as you can carry. And run. I’m kidding, of course.

An awkward moment since all this started.

Awkward? Not really. Frustrated, scared, confused, hopeful—yes.

Best work email you got since all this started.

It was probably an invite to a virtual happy hour.

An aha! moment since all this started.

I really like working in an office full of people and energy.

What’s your theory on how this is going to play out?

How it will all play out? For our industry? For humanity? For the planet? The question is really big and hard to answer. I hope everyone will be kinder to each other and more in touch with how we interact. But honestly, as soon as we find a vaccine, life might just return to normal. Not the new normal, but old normal.
