#WFH Diaries: Nathalie Breter of Hurrah

As confinement continues in most parts of the world, we’re checking in with creative people to see how they’re faring. Here’s an update from Nathalie Breter, communications director at esports agency Hurrah.

Give us a one-sentence bio of yourself.

An introverted (but not shy!) woman who loves food and real talk, hates being bored. 

Where are you living right now, and who’s with you?

In a suburb outside of Paris. I moved nearer to my mum’s during lockdown to take care of her. 

What’s your work situation like at the moment?

I’m lucky to have a job that allows me to work remotely. I created a morning routine to boost my productivity; I forbid myself to stay in pajamas all day long. 

Describe your socializing strategy.

WhatsApp is my best friend. We instituted a ritual with my closest friends—virtual drinks once every other day. I also created a group composed of my relatives, and I check on them pretty much everyday. I’ve tried to leverage my free time to swipe on Tinder… but that was definitely the worst idea ever. People are so desperate. :/

What are you reading?

I discovered I find it relaxing to read at home. I used to read a lot, but it was on public transportation most of the time. I am currently reading, Halo, la Chute du Reach and Isaac Asimov’s Foundation.

What are you watching?

A lot of horror movies and series, of course! I also rewatched Starship Troopers 1 & 2, Conjuring 1 & 2, and The Grudge. Series-wise, when I’m done with AHS 1984, I’ll rewatch Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 

What are you listening to?

I enjoy listening to Fakear while working. When I’m done with work, I listen to The Prodigy to relax, or workout playlists when I train. 

How are you staying fit?

I am so lucky! My amazing pole dance instructors give free online lessons to keep us in shape and strong during lockdown. I train and stretch pretty much everyday. I also cook all my meals, and love trying new recipes.

Have you taken up a hobby?

Nope. I’m leveraging this time at home to do everything I couldn’t before.

Any tips for getting necessities?

Make a list before going out to be sure to not forget anything. Cook meals in big quantities to avoid going out too often. You will also save money (you’re welcome!). If you can’t go out, ask a neighbor for help. If you can’t find someone nearby, use grocery store delivery services.

An awkward moment since all this started.

My first online training session. I was rolling around on the floor, trying to avoid bumping into my dresser, as my room is not that big. But I also had to remain visible on-camera, as my teacher needed to check my moves.

Best work email you got since all this started.

An email from a German company, asking us to join a competition we are working on with few of my colleagues.

When I realized I was having a real talk with my plants.

What’s your theory on how this is going to play out?

Even if things aren’t totally safe, the lockdown itself is over here in France. Some people are allowed to go out; some shops are open again, and some aren’t. But the lockdown itself has shed light on the consequences our way of life has had on the environment. I think it’s a good time to think about what all of us could do to reduce (even a little) our negative effects on the environment. (But I’m pretty sure people will not.)
