Oh Look, Google's Gemini Live Is Your Job Coach Now

AI workin' overtime on Super Bowl Sunday

These days, AI does the prompting. And that makes Google’s national Super Bowl spot, “Dream Job,” feel sweet and vaguely unsettling at the same time.

Created with Smuggler director Henry-Alex Rubin, the story finds a middle-aged dad using Gemini Live to prep for a big job interview. He responds to queries and sharpens his responses based on the bot’s feedback.

Ultimately, Pop recalls his family life—raising kids, helping run the household—because such experience will serve him well in any workplace.

Here’s an extended cut:

It’s a heartfelt tale, beautifully shot, and offers a compelling, relatable product demonstration.

So, it’s almost like an Apple ad. Of late, most Big-Tech commercials follow that template..

There’s an odd subtext, though. About devices here, there and everywhere. Work/life balance or a lack thereof. Machines as masters.

AI itself increasingly makes hiring decisions in our planet’s HR labyrinth. Even when brands soften the algorithm—and Google does a masterful job of it here—the results can seem a tad less than human.

Along with “Dream Job,” Gemini’s Big Game playbook features “50 Stories, 50 States,” a trove of local content spotlighting small-business owners nationwide. (Aspects of this effort, however—apparently owing to its reliance on AI—are proving problematic.)

(Which brand will take home the 2025 Super Clio for the Big Game’s best ad? We’ll find out on Feb. 10.)
