Eliud Kipchoge Stars in Nike's Salute to NYC, Weeks After Historic Run

In New York, everyone's a runner

Are you a runner? If you live in New York City, you might be whether you like it or not—as the city’s frenetic nature requires its residents to frequently pick up their own pace.

That’s the message of this Nike spot, created by R/GA, director Adam Donald and editor Paul La Calandra at Uppercut. It rolled out just after the New York City Marathon and stars Eliud Kipchoge, the 35-year-old Kenyan runner who last month made history by running a marathon in under two hours (in his controversial Nike Vaporfly sneakers).

Nike, of course, has long celebrated non-runner runners, like the kid in the famous “Jogger” spot or the guy in the Nike+ spot who hates running—but does it for an amusingly pointed reason.
