Michael Bolton Helps Supercell Woo Lapsed Clash Royale Gamers
Barbarian bares it all, save for some strategically placed rose petals
For Valentine’s Day, Uncommon Stockholm is helping Supercell, maker of the Clash Royale mobile game, attempt to woo back gamers who stopped playing with a music video that rocks a ’90s vibe.
And who’s more of a soulful ’90s rocker than Michael Bolton? In the ad, he duets with one of the game’s characters—Barbarian—on “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You.”
In the spirit of V-Day, Barbarian sports a mullet and mustache handles as … Barboltian.
There’s a reflection of Bolton in a puddle, Barboltian nude on a heart-shaped bed and a message written in sand. How can lapsed gamers refuse?
“We wanted to find a cultural moment that would help us tell the story,” says agency CEO Mia Berggren. “Valentine’s Day already carries a lot of emotions and built-in tensions, making it the perfect choice. We had to seek support from the ultimate love song legend—Mr. Bolton himself. He was a true pleasure to collaborate with.”
