Apple TV+ Connects Big Time Through Severance Stunt at Grand Central
Look who went viral
Next stop, Severance!
When the cast of Apple TV+’s hit series shows up inside a glass booth at NYC’s Grand Central Terminal, the whole world takes notice.
That’s how it seems, anyway, with Tuesday’s stunt generating massive attention across social and legacy media.
Adam Scott, Britt Lower and Zach Cherry appeared as their business-suited characters, performing typical office tasks as thousands of folks passed by. Executive producer Ben Stiller and actress Patricia Arquette took pics, with many going viral. Soon, sundry images and headlines flooded our collective feeds.
All in all, a brilliant, unexpected pop-up that scored through scope, restraint and a sense of meta irony.
Scope: They hyped season 2 of the surreal workplace show at one of the nation’s key commuter hubs with big stars on hand.
Restraint: The cast simply typed on keyboards, filed papers and so forth. We got no overreaching or complex scenarios. The moment itself was enough, and it captured Severance’s understated offbeat vibe.
Meta irony: Passersby, many en route to or from work, were treated—some might say bedeviled—by a performance piece that mirrored their weekday grinds. They watched the scene play out in real time, almost as if a life-size version Severance was streaming in their midst.
