How John Cantú Brings His Skills in Beatmaking to the Trailer World
The Inside Job editor takes us through his recent musical triumphs
Before John Cantú was a movie trailer editor, he was a beatmaker. He now fuses those instincts with his editorial chops to create some of the most musically memorable trailers of the past few years as an editor at Inside Job.
In this first edition of the Clio Entertainment Creative Mentor Series, John walks us through some of his recent music-driven projects, including the “I Got 5 On It” Us trailer, a Destiny’s Child and Philip Glass mashup for Candyman, and capitalizing on the popularity of Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” for Get Out’s Academy campaign.
In the video above, hear more about John’s process for using hip-hop to drive great creative cuts as he presents “Beats, Cuts, and Life: Re-contextualizing Hip-Hop in Film Marketing.”
