Deadpool Ryan Reynolds Meets Wonder Woman Lynda Carter
In RR's annual SickKids Xmas appeal
You’re a wonder, Ryan Reynolds! You too, ’70s Wonder Woman Lynda Carter! (Does anyone get that theme-song reference? I’m so old.)
Anyhoo, Ryan plays Deadpool and hits the sleigh in his annual appeal for SickKids hospital in Toronto.
“Where to next?” asks pint-sized sidekick Kidpool, as they chat on a snowy rooftop.
“Well, I thought we’d eliminate sick kids.”
“Oh, that’s so ****** up.”
“No, no, no! We’re eliminating the sickness by encouraging people to donate. But we’re gonna need some help. Because you and I are technically R-rated. And these are kids.”
That’s when TV Lynda appears and kicks the cross-generational, pop-culture holiday party into overdrive.
Alas, her patented superhero twirl doesn’t work like it did in the days of disco. Back then, she’d spin and transform into Wonder Woman.
This time, however, her magical costume change goes wacky…
…and she winds up wearing the campaign’s trademark ugly sweater.
It’s, like, meta-nostalgia to the max, with enough in-jokes to cover a half-century of obsessive fandom. (Well, Ryan tosses off a few good quips, anyway.)
