Facebook Marketplace Gives New Meaning to ‘Fright Night’
Haunted collectibles are up for sale
For a true “fright night” experience, Facebook Maketplace is answering the call. And not for just for Halloween—you can, if you choose, get spooked every night of the year!
For the first time in its history, the brand culled items from famously haunted houses across the U.S., inviting collectors who have a penchant for the paranormal to buy something truly creepy.
Vintage dolls with “chilling backstories,” mirrors that reflect an image other than yours (maybe) and more freaky findings rank among the haunted treasures. To see the listings, Facebook has set the search terms: “Haunted Marketplace.”
Rodrigo Moran, director and global head of creative of the family of apps (like Facebook and Instagram) at Meta–Facebook’s ownee, says: “It’s an open invitation for people to share their eerie treasures and let others experience the stories behind them. Everyone has a chance to own something with a real ghost story attached.”
The ghostly collectibles have been sourced to such estates as Burn Brae Mansion in Upstate New York, Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Ariz., and Tiedmann House (aka Franklin Castle) in Cleveland, among others. All have ghostly tales to tell.
In fact, Mystic Manor in Pennsboro, W.V. has been listed on Marketplace for $666,666, which Facebook itself advertised.
Moran adds that thousands–about 10K so far–of hilarious comments are flooding Marketplace and FB social media since the listings launched on October 25. One poster said if she had the money she would turn it into an Air BNB.
The effort was led by Mojo Supermarket.
