What Companies Are Doing for 'Take Your Child to Work Day' (Now That It's Every Day)
Activities from Baldwin&, VMLY&R and more
Thursday is Take Your Child to Work Day—which used to be a pretty special day, before coronavirus made every day Take Your Child to Work Day. Still, some companies have come up with some cool ideas to celebrate the day this year. Check out a few examples below—and let us know if you’re doing something special at your agency or company.
Baldwin&
Staffers at the independent Raleigh, N.C., agency started recording their Zoom sessions about three weeks ago. They took that footage and added in home videos and photos of projects, play times, performances and parental juggling acts—creating the heartfelt video below.
“One of our writers, senior writer Adil Hussain, came to me and said ‘I think there’s a story here that will resonate with everyone stuck working at home right now,’ ” agency CEO David Baldwin tells Muse. “We realized that the parents at our agency were now working two or three full time jobs—as a Baldwin& employee, as a parent, and as a teacher. This concept was made painfully obvious on many of our group Zoom calls. Inevitably, someone would be interrupted or would have to pause to take care of something. So we started recording them, which yielded all the content we needed.”
VMLY&R
VMLY&R also did a cute video, which you can see below, and also organized a set of activities—and even a mini creative brief—for kids at the agency.
The activities are targeted to various age groups, from coloring books for toddlers to virtual classes on stop-motion video for older kids. Additional activities will be hosted alongside clients like Goldfish and Chuck E. Cheese, and include a performance from “Mr. Stinky Feet.”
SAP
SAP is holding a virtual event for the public. Beginning at 9 a.m. PT, the three-hour program on YouTube will include Q&As with model Karlie Kloss and tennis player Sloane Stephens, segment with Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers and Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, yoga with windsurfer Sarah Hauser, gaming tips from Dario “TLO” Wunsch, and a performance by pop group Now United. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles
FCA had been planning to host hundreds of employees’ children at its U.S. headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Now, the event has gone digital—giving the company’s more than 60,000 U.S. employees a chance to experience a day in the life of FCA from the comfort and safety of their own homes. The virtual experience is designed to explore careers available within the automotive company, from design to production and everything in between.
“Now more than ever, parents are seeking creative ways to educate and entertain their school-aged children who are home while they’re working,” said Kelly Tolbert, vp of global talent, leadership and learning at FCA. “Rather than postpone our event until next year, we decided to create a program that allows our U.S. employees to participate with their children.”
