The Heist II: NBA Returns to the Scene of the Crime

A brand new Emirates Cup caper

No mission’s impossible for the enterprising stars of the NBA.

We learned that 12 months ago in a slick Hollywood-thriller sendup called The Heist, which promoted the league’s new mid-season tournament.

That campaign proved popular, and hits deserve sequels. So, The Heist II arrives, hyping that same event, now known as the Emirates NBA Cup.

In the short film below, look for Anthony Davis, Steph Curry, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tyrese Haliburton, Jrue Holiday and Jamal Murray. Emmy-winner Michael Imperioli returns as the mastermind, and Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson gets a pivotal role.

The plot involves a trophy…

…and Rosario steals it! Better luck next time, fellas. We also dug Curry’s smooth hoop moves to evade laser security beams.

Prettybird director Paul Hunter hits all the right faux-suspense notes. Developed by Translation, it’s a fun ride that feels a tad lighter than last year’s entry.

“We expect the familiar story arc of a theatrical heist to resonate with a broad audience and further cement that the Emirates NBA Cup brings a new level of excitement to the early part of the season,” says league CMO Tammy Henault.

Still, let’s not make this a trilogy. Next time, maybe try a different genre. Musicals are popular. Can Steph carry a tune? How about a reality-show spoof? No one’s done one of those before.

For now, let’s cue the BTS reel and explore how the latest caper went down:
