Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Lend Their Voices to M&S Xmas Campaign
They give funny (and fuzzy) performances ... as a pair of mittens
Is this the most inspired Christmas pairing since Heat and Snow Miser? Probably not. Still, it’s worth checking out Marks & Spencer’s holiday advert, featuring the voices of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The Hollywood A-listers portray animated mittens and promote the U.K. retailer’s seasonal food selections. Dawn French co-stars as the brand’s mystical mascot, Fairy.
It rocks a less satirical vibe than we usually associate with Ryan and Rob. Still, they shovel just enough snark, and the approach Christmas-crackles with excellent energy. Directors Dom & Nic of The Mill brought the :80 to life.
The campaign drops this week, timed to M&S’ multi-year sponsorship of the Wrexham AFC soccer club, which the actors own. Activations supporting children and families are on tap.
“It’s essential we partner with a brand who understands the broader goals for the community as a whole and is committed to making positive changes,” Reynolds says in press materials.
A 15,000-square foot M&S Wrexham foodhall launches next month. The chain opened its first location in the Welsh town 87 years ago.
