Oscar Mayer Just Gamified Its Classic 'Bologna Song'

Sick of holiday carols? Why not belt out Oscar Mayer’s B-O-L-O-G-N-A song at full volume!

Some of us do so every day. Spontaneously. It’s how we roll.

To celebrate the jingle’s 50th birthday, brand parent Kraft Heinz is hosting a contest through Dec. 15, inviting fans to upload videos of themselves singing the jaunty jingle for a chance to win prizes.

Oscar Mayer ran a version of the original 1974 commercial during the Thanksgiving Day’s Bears-Lions game:

“This a rare chance to breathe new life into an iconic commercial, while using the product to create a fun connection across generations that often don’t understand each other,” says Lex Beltrone, ECD at Johannes Leonardo, which helped develop the campaign.

Indeed, luncheon meats are the universal language.

“When something is as lasting as the ‘Bologna Song,’ it’s only right that we celebrate it by paying back the consumers who made it iconic in 1974 and those who will sing it in 2024 and beyond,” adds Simon Au, ECD at The Kitchen North America, which also contributed to the push.
