The Mountain Reads Love Poems for SodaStream, Plus Other Fun Valentine's Day Stunts
Thor Björnsson feels the love
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
Of course, brands and agencies are celebrating the holiday, as they always do. One of the more amusing efforts this year is from SodaStream, which has brought back Thor Björnsson—the weightlifting champion who plays The Mountain on HBO’s Game of Thrones—to read some love poems in his inimitable style.
SodaStream has worked with Thor before, but never in such a romantic capacity. Maybe he should read some of these to Cersei; it might defuse the whole war-within-a-war dynamic plaguing Westeros.
Below, check out a few other Valentine’s Day efforts from agencies and brands who are feeling the love this holiday.
AT&T
AT&T and BBDO extended their recently launched “Just OK is not OK” advertising campaign for Valentine’s Day. They constructed a card kiosk in Los Angeles, offering “Just OK” Valentine’s Day cards with lines like, “All of Me Likes Some of You” and “We go together like two people with limited options.” Then they filmed people’s reactions. (See below.) There is also a BuzzFeed listicle as part of the campaign, as well as animated social posts.
HahaOK Corporation
HahaOK is a make-believe agency comprised of four advertising creatives whose whole mission involves creating dumb outdoor advertisements in the Bay Area (no, really). For Valentine’s Day, they found a stranger named Falcon (no, really) on Craigslist personals, and are trying to help him find love—with using advertising on the side of a garbage can. (They’ve also put posts on Tinder, Bumble and, of course, Craigslist.) They’re inviting women to meet him at 6 p.m. at the trash can today. We’ll keep you updated on how that goes.
Marla Aaron Jewelry
Marla Aaron Jewelry is delivering a timeless message about love with a little help from Shakespeare, Brooklyn-based creative agency Something Different and some of the cutest kids you’ve ever seen.
Oberland
Purpose-driven agency Oberland created a Valentine’s Day video all about love in a world of hate.
One Love Foundation
As we covered earlier this week, The One Love Foundation released a special box of chocolates designed to start a conversation about healthy versus unhealthy relationships. Designed by TBWAChiatDay New York.
Peoples Jewellers
Peoples Jewellers is giving a few lucky Canadians an unprecedented opportunity to say “I love you” on Valentine’s Day by purchasing media on Canada’s largest digital billboard—located at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto—and handing it over to people in love. Agency: Juliet in Toronto.
PETA
A video created by the community imagines a motel that has banned vegans because of their noisy marathon sex sessions. “Increase your sexual stamina. Go Vegan,” the ad says.
Red & Co.
This agency, led by founder and executive creative director Mira Kaddoura, created a new product called HappySexFace—an “all-natural sexabulous oil for fun with yourself and others.” In addition to the all-natural oil, the site offers HSF-themed pouches, cards, sweatshirts, tees, pins and stickers for purchase.
Shelter Pet Project
Olivia Munn (The Newsroom), Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and Logan Ryan (NFL’s Tennessee Titans) star in the Ad Council’s new #AdoptPureLove campaign timed to Valentine’s Day. Agency: Wunderman Thompson New York.
