2 Minutes With … Jeremy Newton, Head of Agency Business at DLMDD

Helping the music industry becoming more diverse and accessible

Jeremy is head of agency business at DLMDD, a creative sound branding specialty shop. He joined the business in May, reuniting with founders Sascha Darroch-Davies, Greg Moore and Max De Lucia, with whom he worked earlier in his career at Adelphoi Music. Prior to DLMDD, Jeremy served at at Sixty Four Music, where he worked on campaigns for leading brands.

We spent two minutes with Jeremy to learn more about his background, his creative inspirations and recent work he’s admired.

Jeremy, tell us …

Where you grew up, and where you live now?

I grew up in North London and now I live in North West London—apples, trees and falling blah blah blah!

Your earliest musical memory.

Playing Thriller on an endless loop on ye olde Fisher-Price cassette player.

Your favorite bands/musicians today.

Currently I am listening to a lot of Cleo SolYazmin Lacey, Children of Zeus, Sault and Steam Down, to name but a few.

One of your favorite projects you’ve ever worked on.

“We Buy Any Car” was a great project to be involved in. It encompassed an artist partnership, a re-record and seemed to make a few waves culturally in this endless stream of content that bombards our senses.

A recent project you’re proud of.

“CALM x Cupra,” my first project with DLMDD. It’s a campaign with a sense of purpose and it is always nice to incorporate some drum and bass flavors in a production.

One thing about how the music world is evolving that you’re excited about.

Maybe I am an eternal optimist, but one thing that fills me with hope is that my side of the industry does slowly appear to be getting more diverse and accessible to the next generation of composers, supervisors, label and publisher staff. A slow process for sure, but things are certainly moving in the right direction.

Someone else’s work, in music or beyond, that you admired lately.

The Channel 4 idents work by String and Tins was phenomenal.

A book, movie, TV show or podcast you recently found inspiring.

Podcasts take up a lot of time in my consciousness. History, football, film and music podcasts are on a loop, but currently I am obsessed with The Cine Files, which breaks down classic films with plenty of trivia and anecdotes.

An artist you admire outside the world of music.

I love Keith Haring, his style, his art, what he stood for as a human being and the legacy of his work culturally and socially.

Your favorite fictional character(s).

Adrian Mole / David Brent / Billy Hoyle

Someone worth following in social media.

@UncleVibes is a bit of a don (wink wink, nudge nudge!)

What you’d be doing if you weren’t in the music business.

I have always loved the idea of being a location manager for film and TV.
