#WFH Diaries: Matthew Eckrich of Joan Creative

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc globally, we’re checking in with the people in the creative industry to see how they’re doing. Here, we catch up with Matthew Eckrich of Joan Creative.

Give us a one-line bio of yourself.

I’m a junior copywriter at Joan Creative and should never be left with your unlocked phone.

Where are you living right now, and who’s with you?

I live in the West Village, in Manhattan. No roommates, just a breathtaking collection of shoes and a puppy named Titos.

What’s your work situation like at the moment?

We’re working from home and dressing from the waist-up exclusively.

Describe your socializing strategy.

Vodka.

How are you dealing with childcare, if applicable?

It’s a juggling act. I don’t have kids, but frequently reject calendar invites by citing my childcare responsibilities. Whenever people ask me, “How do you do it?” I usually answer, “Prayer.”

What are you reading?

The warning labels on my prescriptions.

What are you watching?

Troop Beverly Hills. The pioneer spirit of Phyllis Nefler is my model for surviving COVID-19.

What are you listening to?

The last song I listened to was “Say So” by Doja Cat. I was rollerblading past a FEMA tank and felt flirty.

How are you staying fit?

Intermittent fits of ice cold diarrhea from Daily Harvest smoothies and self hatred.

Have you taken up a hobby?

Dental hygiene.

Any tips for getting necessities?

Cough loudly if you see someone heading for the same item. If they’re undeterred, revenge-fart on them in the checkout line.

An awkward moment since all this started.

Sending, “hay sluts” to the wrong gChat.

Best work email you got since all this started.

Positive feedback from a client regarding my first spot that I just filmed!

An aha! moment since all this started.

There are far fewer true introverts among us than BuzzFeed quizzes would have us believe.

What’s your theory on how this is going to play out?

I think there will be a puppy-boom in N.Y. and S.F. followed by a rise in fitspo-related physical therapy cases.
