Zingers Fly When a Bunch of Comics Roast Mr. Peanut
The honoree quips about Baby Nut, too
They kid because they love.
Planters’ Mr. Peanut takes the heat from a panel of comedians led by Jeff Ross during a roast set to air during the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Created by VaynerMedia, the commercial delivers about what you’d expect: Broadly self-aware humor, with the monocled mascot snarking about his infamous Big Game appearance in 2020, when he was “reborn” as Baby Nut.
Natasha Leggero gets in the best shot: “Why are you dressed like it’s five recessions ago?” In campaign materials, she adds: “There are moments in a career where you get to work with your heroes. I was so honored to dig into the 106-year history of Mr. Peanut and get under his shell.”
Ross, Frank Castillo, Atsuko Okatsuka, Yamaneika Saunders, David Lucas and Sarah Tiana also crack wise. (Get it? Like you crack a nut. Subtle! The whole roast thing’s too on the nose.)
Planters will post bonus footage on Sunday. Maybe some quips were too salty for prime time. (See, subtle.)
