It's Mahomes vs. Rodgers in State Farm's New 'Agent vs. Agent' Spots

MVP quarterbacks yuk it up

In State Farm’s “Agent vs. Agent” campaign that debuted last year, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers delivered the funny, aided by real-life insurance company employee Patrick Minnis and fictional sports rep Gabe Gabriel—played by Supernatural’s David Haydn-Jones, a superbly smarmy scene-stealer who intercepted most of the laughs.

The same lineup returns in new spots from DDB Chicago that introduce Gabe’s newest client, who, like Rodgers, happens to be a mega-star quarterback and NFL MVP.

Now, if you’re thinking it couldn’t possibly be the immensely likable but overexposed Patrick Mahomes … then you’re tripping, or else you didn’t read this story’s headline very carefully. Indeed, the Kansas City Chiefs dynamo found time in his busy schedule—which includes recent star turns for Hunt’s Ketchup, the Madden video-game franchise, and sunglasses provider Oakley—to appear.

As always, he’s an affable presence, introduced by Gabe as “my new Ma-homie” in the spot below:

Next up is a ride around town, with Gabe head-bangin’ to Judas Priest’s ’80s metal-thumper “Breaking the Law,” while urging Rodgers to “floor it” and exceed the speed limit:

Finally, we take a trip through Gabe’s worst nightmare…

…where opposing teams led by Rodgers and Mahomes both wear State Farm uniforms as a packed stadium chants the company’s name.

Wait … Ma-homie. Just got it. Heh.

This stuff’s kind of like the Chiefs blowing out the Raiders 45-0. Entertaining, but nothing to get overly stoked about.

The campaign will run across TV, radio, social and elsewhere through the Jan. 19 NFL conference championship games.

Now, everybody, bang your heads:

Breaking the law! Breaking the law!
Breaking the law! … BREAKING THE LAW!
