John Legend Fronts Headspace's Post-Valentine's Day Self-Care Campaign

EGOT winner narrates audio stories, curates playlists and more

Valentine’s Day is over and John Legend can relax and focus on his own self-care. He’s also helping Headspace subscribers get a good night’s sleep by using his soothing voice to promote better sleep habits and self-love.

“We are committed to helping consumers find ways to infuse mindfulness and healthy habits into their daily lives. To do so, we are constantly looking for cultural moments where we can join the conversation in irreverent ways,” says Amy Davis, VP of global brand marketing at Headspace. “We saw the John Legend partnership as a great way to flip the script on Valentine’s Day and use comedy to deliver an important message that’s often overlooked, which is to remember the most important relationship we all have: the one with ourselves.”

In “Love Yourself Like a Legend,” the musician is clad in a pink robe and surrounded by a post-Valentine’s Day whirlwind of strawberries, chocolates, an oversized teddy bear, flowers and balloons. Legend is exhausted and focusing on his own self-care and encouraging others to do the same by listening to a 45-minute Sleepcast that he narrates, which brings listeners through an old concert hall as he describes the types of music played in decades past. It’s as close as anyone will get to having John Legend in their bed, unless you’re Chrissy Teigen.

In mid-March, Legend will guest-host five episodes of Headspace’s mental health podcast, Radio Headspace, and give self-care and love advice. He also curated an eight-hour music playlist, accessible to Headspace members.

Headspace has worked with Legend since mid-2020.

“At the time—and even to this day—people around the world were facing a barrage of unrelenting stressors, from decision fatigue and work-from-home burnout, to health concerns and financial worries,” Davis tells Muse. “All of this makes it incredibly hard for us to focus on what matters most to us—whether it’s cultivating a new hobby, spending time with our families or working on our careers. John curated our first Focus playlist, and brought in other artists, musicians and composers to create their own focus playlists that live within the Headspace app.”
