Amazon Brings the Canned Heat to This Week's Most Shazam'd Ads

'Let's Stick Together' from 1970 anchors new spot

Amazon picked a throwback song from 1970 as the soundtrack to its new global spot promoting Amazon Storefronts, a new section of the site dedicated to selling goods from small businesses.

“Let’s Work Together” by Canned Heat anchors the spot and has been a hit with viewers, coming in at No. 5 on our weekly list of most Shazam’d commercials. The ad uses the first and third verses of the bluesy number, entreating viewers with the lyrics…

Together we’ll stand
Divided we’ll fall
Come on now, people
Let’s get on the ball

And work together
Come on, come on
Let’s work together
Now, now people
Because together we will stand
Every boy, every girl and man

Well now, make someone happy
Make someone smile
Let’s all work together
And make life worthwhile

Let’s work together
Come on, come on
Let’s work together
Now, now people
Because together we will stand
Every boy, girl, woman and man

Amazon | A Big Collection of Small

“Over half of everything sold on Amazon is from independent businesses. To shine a light on this surprising fact we chose a real small business and put them front and center, giving them their very own TV advert,” the creative agency, Lucky Generals in London, said on its website.

The global spot has slightly different executions for different markets. The U.S. version namechecks the Little Flower Soap Co. in Chelsea, Mich., as a featured small business, while the U.K. version goes with Shearer Candles in Glasgow. (The storefronts are the same, so that would appear to be a set rather than an actual location.)

Two other spots are new to the Shazam list this week. At No. 9 is an Yves Saint Laurent commercial for its Black Opium perfume, featuring the song “The Hills” by The Weeknd. And at No. 10 is a spot for the 2019 Lincoln MKC featuring “Let Go” by Justin Jay & Friends Feat. Josh Taylor and Benny Bridges.

Samsung remains at No. 1 on the list for the seventh straight week with its Galaxy Note9 campaign featuring “Thunderclouds,” a track from LSD (a collaboration between Labrinth, Sia and Diplo). Apple moves up to No. 2 with its iPhone XS spot that uses the music of Snoh Aalegra.
