From Richard Jewell to Lost in Space, See This Week's Trailers and Posters

Plus, the return of Zombieland

This week in entertainment marketing was out of this world. We visited alternate universes and battled our way through multiple zombie apocalypses. Then we danced to classics by the Backstreet Boys and Black Sabbath.

We witnessed heroes become questionable villains, and observed both infectious families and families separated by war. There were fantastical worlds filled with magic and superhuman beings. There was action, adventure, friendship, war, biopics and comedy-horror blends. And to cap it all off, we were reminded of the beauty of life and death. What more could you ask for?

Check out some of the trailers and posters released this week.

Richard Jewell

Warner Bros.
Trailer Agency: MOCEAN

Talk about a powerful trailer. Richard Jewell, the Clint Eastwood film about the man hailed as a hero and later a suspect in the 1996 Summer Olympics bombings in Atlanta, will have you sweltering in your seat. The editing pace raises tension by the moment. The story arc is crafted masterfully, driving the severity home. Know the name Richard Jewell on Dec. 13.

Zombieland: Double Tap

Sony Pictures
Trailer Agency: Project X/AV
Poster Agency: BLT Communications

The new Zombieland: Double Tap trailer is here, and it’s right on target. The trailer draws out nostalgia using creative methods. The musical choices will have you moving. And the voiceover work adds a momentous touch. The trailer is fast, fun, filled with references and full of laughter. Check out the character posters as well. Very nice to see the gang back together. Prepare for another Zombieland adventure on Oct. 18.

Parasite

Neon
Trailer Agency: Jump Cut

The new trailer for Parasite will take your breath away. The editing functions like a blinking eye taking you down a dark rabbit hole. The score plays into the intensity of the story. The review quotes are placed powerfully throughout. Remind yourself to breathe when it’s over. Parasite crawls into theatres Oct. 11.

1917

Universal Pictures
Trailer Agency: Inside Job

The new trailer for 1917, the Sam Mendes war film about a near-impossible mission, looks like an epic in the making. The trailer is elegantly constructed to highlight the human stories and struggles behind war. The trailer demands compassion for the characters in mere moments. I said it after the first trailer, but have to say it again—I love the use of the title treatment at the end. It brings a sense of life to a story surrounded by death. See 1917 this December.

His Dark Materials

HBO
Trailer Agency: BOND

The trailer for His Dark Materials will have you lost in a fantastical world. It draws you in with story and mystery and then traps you with the musical cues. HBO partnered with the BBC to bring this imaginative world, based on the novels by Philip Pullman, to life on Nov. 4. Get ready for a grand adventure!

The Kominsky Method

Netflix
Trailer Agency: Big Picture
Poster Agency: N/A

What I loved about the trailer for the new season of The Kominsky Method was the poetic structure. It started with death and tied itself like a bow, ending with the glory of living. Bursts of comedy were scattered throughout, reminding you that sometimes you just have to laugh about life. Check out the new key art, too, which captures the excellence of this bromance. See the new trials and tribulations of The Kominsky Method on Oct. 25.

The Expanse

Amazon Prime Video
Trailer Agency: Workshop Creative
Poster Agency: BLT Communications

The trailer for The Expanse cleverly juxtaposes the JFK “Moon Speech” with series footage. The trailer brings to life a story about a time and place that remains familiar but exists so far away. The new poster gives a nice look at the story through character. The Expanse returns Dec. 13.

Star Trek: Discovery

CBS All Access
Trailer Agency: Open Road
Poster Agency: Size Matters

The Star Trek universe has awakened, and man, are they excited. The trailer for Star Trek: Discovery depletes gravity and sucks you in. A shout-out to the twinkling title treatment throughout—it adds a nice spark and blends well into the story. The new key art is eye-catching and refreshingly clean in execution. Star Trek: Discovery takes flight in 2020.

Daybreak

Netflix

Trailer Agency: MOCEAN
Poster Agency: MOCEAN

The trailer for Daybreak is a burst of energy. It’s loud, colorful, radical and riotous. The pace is quick, and the jokes are quicker. The music choices are perfectly on point. The graphics also offer a youthful feel. The key art is pretty iconic as well—very Ferris Bueller-esque. Check out life during a zombie apocalypse on Oct. 24. It looks totally rad.

The King’s Man

20th Century Fox & Disney Studios
Trailer Agency: The Hive
Poster Agency: LA

The story and action sequences drive the trailer for The King’s Man, but it is the music mixed in that really makes it thrive. Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” elevates the action and keeps you energized throughout. Also, check out the new character poster, which guarantees adventure. See The King’s Man this February.

Lost in Space

Netflix
Trailer Agency: Trailer Park
Poster Agency: Size Matters

The trailer for Lost in Space is a visual stunner in every frame. The music takes the trailer out of this universe. The instrumental version of “It’s a Wonderful World,” intertwined with cinematography gold, made for a cinematic two minutes. The new poster feels cinematic as well in concept and color. Get Lost in Space on Dec. 24.
