From Da 5 Bloods to Tenet, See This Week's New Trailers and Posters

Plus, 13 Reasons Why and Queer Eye are back

Entertainment marketing was action-packed this week.

We got a first look at Spike Lee’s latest, a film that revisits the horror and brotherhood that came out of the Vietnam War. We also took a trip to South Africa to investigate a blood diamond ring. If that wasn’t enough, we got a first look at Charlize Theron’s latest film, where she has the unique ability to never die, which allows for an eternity of being a complete badass. Could the role have been any more perfectly cast? The cherry on top of this week was the latest sneak peek at Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Tenet. The action doesn’t disappoint—it never does with Nolan.

It wasn’t all action this week. We went back to high school with the 13 Reasons Why crew, and quite frankly, it makes our own high school drama not look so bad. Things turned even bleaker when we took a trip back to the Antebellum South. And as if that weren’t nightmarish enough, we got a more in-depth look at the perversion of Jeffrey Epstein’s Pedophile Island.

Don’t worry, though. Just when you begin to question mankind’s vile nature, the Fab 5 returned to lift our spirits. That’s right, Queer Eye is back, and the new trailer will surely leave you with a smile.

Lots of excitement coming your way. Here are some of the trailers and posters released this week.

Da 5 Bloods

Netflix
Trailer Agency: Mark Woollen & Associates
Poster Agency: Gravillis Inc.

In Spike Lee’s latest joint, a group of African-American vets return to Vietnam, searching for the remains of their fallen squad leader and hunting the gold rumored to be left behind. The trailer captures your attention with psychedelic graphics, music that speaks to the time, and the intermittent inclusion of Vietnam footage. The combination of these techniques takes you to another era and highlights how brotherhood rises out of destruction. Check out the stunning poster, designed and illustrated in such a striking manner that it is unlikely to be forgotten. See Da 5 Bloods on June 12.

13 Reasons Why

Netflix

13 Reasons Why is returning for its final season, and the trailer shows the destruction of guilt as the students prepare for graduation. Aside from the mounting drama accentuated by the editing, the music drives the piece, with the telling selection “Spiraling” by Jens Kuross. The final season premieres June 5.

Antebellum

Lionsgate
Trailer Agency: Wild Card Creative Group
Poster Agency: Leroy and Rose

Imagine being ripped away from the beauty and normalcy of your everyday modern life only to be placed back into the Antebellum South. That’s what happens to Janelle Monáe in the trailer for Antebellum. The trailer is gripping, appearing like an advertisement for the perfect life that quickly morphs into a nightmare. The trailer switches back and forth between the two worlds, increasing the horror with each juxtaposition. The new poster expresses the horror through the telling facial expression and the fear of losing one’s voice. Shout-out for the title treatment as well; I admire the backward E. It seems to symbolize the backwardness of slavery itself. Antebellum opens Aug. 21.

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich

Netflix
Trailer Agency: JAX

The trailer for Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich offers a disturbing look at the criminal acts of the financier and convicted sex offender, and the influential folk who acted with him. Using footage, interviews and news clippings, the trailer grows more intense by the second, ending with a powerful collection of statements from the victims of these heinous crimes. Take a deeper look into the horror of sex trafficking and the now-infamous Pedophile Island on May 27.

Trackers

Cinemax
Trailer Agency: Ammo Creative

Trackers, based on the 2011 novel, follows a team of South African detectives attempting to take down a blood diamond ring. The trailer builds suspense through its editing, framing the story while giving peeks of the action. Most memorable is the kickass music selection, “When the Sky Falls” from Alibi Music. Its energy invigorates the piece. See Trackers on June 5.

The Old Guard

Netflix
Trailer Agency: Wild Card Creative Group
Poster Agency: BOND

Buckle up for some first-class action, as Charlize Theron is about to kick a whole lot of ass in The Old Guard. The film follows a group of mercenaries with a unique superpower to stay alive as they fight crime and onboard a new squad member. The trailer is action-packed, the music and sound-design are epic throughout, and the visuals are stunning and unexpected. Check out the chicly designed character poster as well. Meet The Old Guard on July 10.

Queer Eye

Netflix

The Fab 5 are back, and they’re ready to give the world what it needs most right now—some uplifting. The trailer is heartwarming, playful and inspiring as the team take on new cases to bring confidence to those in need. It motivates us all to evaluate our situations and see where we might lend a supportive hand. I adore the new poster in all its patriotic glory, which celebrates the Fab 5 taking on Philidelphia. Queer Eye returns June 5.

Tenet

Warner Bros.
Trailer Agency: Aspect

Fans waited anxiously as Warner Bros. spent days teasing the release of the trailer for Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s latest masterpiece, which premiered on Fortnite. The story follows a secret agent with the unique ability to alter time, as he tries to stop World War III. As for the trailer itself, it was well worth the wait. Every second of it feels larger-than-life cinematic. The score and sound design move the action along seamlessly. The editing is flawless. As for the story itself, like any Nolan film, you’ll want to watch the trailer a few times to catch all the nuggets. The great thing about this trailer—it doesn’t get old.
