Skincare Brand Skewers Black Friday Hype
The Ordinary welcomes 'Slowvember'
Calm yourselves down, acquisitive people. Do you really need another FILL IN THE BLANK? Think before you buy!
Skincare brand The Ordinary deflates the notion of Black Friday “deals” in a cheeky outdoor campaign from creative studio Uncommon.
The pair’s copy-first, minimalist aesthetic returns this week in “Slowvember,” which, we’re told, seeks to “shine a light on the misinformation around Black Friday ‘deals’ across every category.”
Billboard and posters boast sharp, subtle art direction, with store labels skewering the irony of frenzied shopping on Dec. 29.
Messages include: “Buy 1, get 2 … for the price of 3,” and “Last chance today … or tomorrow … or literally any other day.”
The Ordinary is providing a blanket 23 percent discount this month, and closing its website and IRL stories on Black Friday.
That way, its employees can shop elsewhere around town. (Kidding, gently kidding.)
Breaking across the U.S. and U.K., the work fits a brand that prides itself on truth and transparency. It offers a zippy, reasoned retort to the SPEND! NOW! BUY! frenzy that assaults our ears like freakish solstice bells.
