Kellogg's Kaiju Cockerel Makes a Scene Downtown
Poultry power from Leo Burnett
Who wants a big breakfast?
A ginormous version of Kellogg’s Cornelius Cockerel bops through the A.M. rush in a :60 from Leo Burnett, Framestore and MJZ director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. Onlookers gape and gasp. Jurassic 5’s “Jayou” provides the bouncy soundtrack.
Kaiju send-ups always rock. Here, alas, there’s no carnage or destruction, even of a cartoon-ish nature. Nor does Corny battle an outsized Tony the Tiger. That would’ve been grrreat!
Still, the rooster mounts a tall building, ala King Kong, and crows at the sun. You don’t see that every day.
Weirdly, this marks London’s second dancing fowl of 2024, following Mother London’s somewhat similar push for KFC.
Cornelius has been a brand icon for more than 60 years, we’re told, and this campaign represents an effort to rally Kellogg’s cereals under a unified banner.
“We wanted to celebrate Kellogg’s legacy by bringing back Cornelius, the mascot, with all his original swagger, while giving him a fresh energy to connect with a new generation,” says Burnett CCO Mark Elwood.
Sales have sagged a bit lately. A big ol’ bird should fix that right up.
Work rolls out across TV and digital venues in the U.K. and Europe over the next few months.
