Ikea Made Its Own Kåma Sutra, for Those Looking to Experiment in the Bedroom

Featuring 20 unique furniture positions

Hot the heels of the Koncept Sutra (a guide to blissful copywriter and art director collaborations, made by a couple of Anomaly creatives) comes Ikea’s Kåma Sutra—an illustrated guide to finding nirvana in your bedroom (furniture).

Produced by Ogilvy, the 24-page book features 20 unique bedroom furniture “positions” based on insights and trends about how people live at home, according to Ikea. They range from “The Widely Open” (featuring the Elvarli open wardrobe) to “The Doggy Style” (with the Lurvig pet cushion) to “The Beautiful Behind” (with an Algot shelving unit creating a wardrobe at the back of the room).

“While popularly known for intimate positions, scholars have characterized the original text of the Kama Sutra as having a larger theme—the art of living,” says Sue Slominski, Ikea U.S. consumer and customer engagement manager. “We believe that the art of living a better everyday life at home starts in the bedroom—after all, it’s where every day begins—and this light-hearted manual gives people some added stimulation to experiment with and enjoy their private sanctuaries.”
