#WFH Diaries: Brendan Hannan of the LA Galaxy

As confinement continues in most parts of the world, we’re checking in with creative people to see how they’re faring. Here’s an update from Brendan Hannan, vp of marketing, communications and digital at soccer club LA Galaxy.

Give us a one-line bio of yourself.

Big fan of soccer, music and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Where are you living right now, and who’s with you?

Living in Manhattan Beach, Calif. Rolling solo.

What’s your work situation like at the moment, and how are you moving ahead during the crisis?

Currently working from home. Working to find creative solutions to get the LA Galaxy back on the field. Trying to tell interesting stories and keep our fans engaged while everyone works through the challenges of a global pandemic. Planning and ideation are similar to an offseason—just doing most of it in swim trunks at the house now.

Describe your socializing strategy.

Have enjoyed writing handwritten letters to friends, new and old. Getting in on a fair share of FaceTimes and Zoom calls as well.

What are you reading?

I just finished Ben Lerner’s The Topeka School.

What are you watching?

Crazy as it is to say, I’ve never watched Mad Men before. So I’ve been giving that a go in my free time. Incredible show. Very well written.

What are you listening to?

Listening to a lot of music right now. Big fan of Waxahatchee’s new album, Hamilton Leithauser’s solo debut, Thundercat and Waylon Jennings (separate, but could be cool together, too).

How are you staying fit?

Lots of jumping jacks in the kitchen.

Have you taken up a hobby?

Not really. Have utilized the time to spend more time reading, cooking and writing. Solid time to focus on old hobbies.

Any tips for getting necessities?

Be kind. Everyone out there has a different situation and a different circumstance.

An awkward moment since all this started.

Most video calls are ripe with awkward moments. The pauses and the moments in between make the flow of conversation tough.

An aha! moment since all this started.

It’s good to be reminded that you only get one go round at this. Should try and make it awesome.

What’s your theory on how this is going to play out?

I’m not good with predictions. I think it’s going to take a bit of time. We should all be patient and try to learn from the process. Hopefully it makes us better in the long run.
