Burger King Is Celebrating Christmas Early, Because Shouldn't 2020 Be Over Already?

Yuletide cheer to balance out the coal we got this year

Do you need a little Christmas, right this very minute?

After the past six months, many of us wouldn’t mind, so Burger King is stepping up with some early holiday cheer.

The fast feeder decked the walls of its 79th Court store in Miami Lakes, Florida, with sundry festive decorations, which will remain up through July 28 to lift locals’ spirits. Starting today, BK will also let yuletide themes wash over its app and social channels.

After all, 2020’s been Grinchly, “so we’re doing our part to wrap it up early,” the company explains in this video:

Creative agency David in São Paulo and Miami devised the campaign, which coincides with a two-for-$5 “unwrapping deal” that lets diners mix and match features for their Whoppers, Big Fish, Original Chicken Sandwiches and Chicken Fries.

First BK gave us Whoppers made from cows that fart less. Now this. The gifts just keep coming!

Other fun initiatives from the ever-innovative marketer include free Whoppers for those using BK billboards as their Zoom backgrounds, enlivening kids’ unhappy lockdown parties—sans creepy (Mc)clowns!—and a Pride Parade in Spain with delivery vehicles converted into floats. This uber-oniony “Social Distancing Whopper” was, understandably, a real stinker.

“2020 has been a tough year thus far and it’s a popular sentiment that people are tired and overwhelmed—they just want it to be over,” says Renato Rossi, the chain’s North America marketing lead. “In this campaign we are able to use a light-hearted approach that brings much needed happiness and enjoyment.”
