2 Minutes With … Jamie Dee Hart, Founder of Hart & Songs

On the accessibility factor in the world of music discovery

Jamie has spent the last decade working with artists, labels and publishers, helping them leverage digital platforms and tools and ensuring they accurately collect royalties. She is the founder and CEO of Hart & Songs, an artist and rights management firm in L.A. Jamie also manages pop singer-songwriter Ryan Nealon and electronic producer Koresma.

Her past projects include producing a concert at Madison Square Garden for a Latin Grammy-nominated album and providing social media strategy for breakout Clubhouse star Axel Mansoor. In addition, Jamie helped launch SoundCloud’s Unsung Heroes series, which focuses on composers.

We spent two minutes with Jamie to learn more about her background, her creative inspirations and recent work she’s admired.

Jamie, tell us …

Where you grew up, and where you live now.

I grew up in San Diego, and I currently live in Los Angeles.

Your earliest musical memory.

Belting out “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion as a little kid in the car with my parents. It’s a cute memory I cherish.

Your favorite bands/musicians today.

My all-time favorite artist is Stevie Nicks—she is my queen. Some other favorites: Holly Humberstone, Gracie Abrams, Kacey Musgraves and Sasha Sloan.

One of your favorite projects you’ve ever worked on.

Building my company, Hart & Songs. My deep passion for music drives me to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives and careers. During my time assisting clients in catalog management, I’ve had the privilege of registering hundreds of incredible songs across various genres. To showcase just a fraction of these, I’ve created a fun playlist.

A recent project you’re proud of.

I am incredibly proud of my management client Ryan Nealon. His song “Feel Good,” which delves into the sensitive topic of body dysmorphia, had a viral moment on TikTok and Instagram. Ryan’s ability to convey emotion through his lyrics is remarkable.

One thing about how the music world is evolving that you’re excited about.

I am excited about the accessibility that has been introduced with the world of music discovery. I have always been a fan of independent musicians growing their career with whatever team they have around them, and TikTok and Instagram are platforms that give artists the opportunity to find an audience no matter where they are based. It feels like consistency is rewarded on these platforms and that’s something I am always telling artists who are building a fan base.

Someone else’s work, in music or beyond, that you admired lately.

My friend Megh Vakharia is absolutely killing it with his company SymphonyOS. They have such incredible tools for independent artists and I use their platform for all my clients.

A book, movie, TV show or podcast you recently found inspiring.

Book: All About Love by Bell Hooks

An artist you admire outside the world of music.

My good friend Kim Rose makes incredible art—everyone should definitely check her out.

Your favorite fictional character.

Princess Zelda. I grew up playing the Legend of Zelda games.

Someone worth following on social media.

@camberapp is a Los Angeles-based app that shares events and pop-ups every week around the city. I am always trying to find new activities and I love popping on this profile to get ideas.

Your main strength as a marketer/creative.

Identifying and amplifying an artist’s authenticity, ensuring their content remains true to who they are. I’m passionate about celebrating individuality.

Your biggest weakness.

Accepting that I don’t have the ability to instantly resolve all challenging situations in life.

What you’d be doing if you weren’t in the music business.

Some kind of work in the health and fitness industry.
