2 Minutes With … Jaclyn Rink Crowley, ECD at Anomaly NY

On George Harrison, Righteous Gemstones, Michael K. Williams for the Atlantic, and her upcoming Dunkin' work

Jaclyn Rink Crowley recently joined Anomaly after working as a creative director at Wieden+Kennedy New York for six years.

While at W+K, she developed award-winning work for brands like HBO, Delta, Duracell and AT&T. In 2019, Jaclyn led and helped win W+K NY’s largest client win in its history, McDonald’s global. Before that, she got her start as an art director at Bozell, where she focused on the infamous “Got Milk?” campaign.

We spent two minutes with Jaclyn to learn more about her background, her creative inspirations, and recent work she’s admired.


Jaclyn, tell us…

Where you grew up, and where you live now.

I grew up in upstate New York, and like any good Italian, you never venture far from family, so I currently reside in Westchester.

How you first realized you were creative.

I was terrible at every other subject.

A person you idolized creatively early on.

My mom, an artist and art teacher. She believes there are no mistakes when it comes to art. I like that.

A moment from high school or college that changed your life.

I don’t know If I have one! I did meet my husband freshman year in college, so let’s throw him a bone and let that be the answer. I love you, Jonathan, you’re the best!

A visual artist or band/musician you admire.

George Harrison. How do you do it, George Harrison? I don’t even know if I believe in religion but when “My Sweet Lord” comes on, I scream-sing “I really want to see you Lord!” with the windows down and tears in my eyes. Can you relate? No? #movemedude

A book, movie, TV show or podcast you recently found inspiring.

Righteous Gemstones. Love that Danny McBride and David Gordon Green crew. Inspiring ’cause they know what they’re good at and they lean all the way in.

Your favorite fictional character.

Rhiannon, who rings like a bell through the night. She sounds bad ass and sexy as hell.

Someone or something worth following on social media.

How Covid-19 changed your life, personally or professionally.

I have gained so many hours with my kids every day. I’m never going back.

One of your favorite creative projects you’ve ever worked on.

I think probably the thing I’m most proud of is the film I did for The Atlantic with Michael K. Williams. I learned a lot. I left a changed person.

A recent project you’re proud of.

I’m super excited about the launch of Dunkin’ coming in just a few short weeks. Dunkin’ was my first big pitch with Anomaly, and so proud of where it’s going. We just pre-launched it this month with something called the Dunkin’ Casting Call on TikTok. Picked a few of those fine folks to come to our set and be a part of the film. We’re also throwing in the likes of David Ortiz and Tate (a TikTok famous dog … for real). Keep your eyes out for it next month.

Someone else’s work that inspired you years ago.

Gerry Graf’s work for E*Trade. A monkey dancing in the back of a truck, “We just wasted $2 million. What are you doing with your money?” Stupid is smart.

Someone else’s work you admired lately.

There is countless work I’ve admired lately. It’s everywhere. And countless talented people that I feel so happy for. But to Jon Marshall, who made the bold move to quit FT and freelance and then made that AMAZING Uber Eats Super Bowl work—I salute you. To Katie D’Agostine, who worked past 12 every night, as a new mom, to create that fun McDonald’s menu hacks campaign, I see you.

Your main strength as a creative person.

I care a lot.

Your biggest weakness.

I care a lot.

One thing that always makes you happy.

Sleeping between my kids.

One thing that always makes you sad.

An early sunset.

What you’d be doing if you weren’t in advertising.

Probably I’d be watching a lot of TV in bed. But If we’re daydreaming—I’d be the next Gershwin. Can you believe a human being came up with “Rhapsody In Blue”?
