From The Fresh Prince Reunion to Chaos Walking, See This Week's Trailers and Posters

Plus Meryl Streep in Let Them All Talk, and Big Mouth Season 4

2020 has done quite a number on the mind. While stuck inside, it’s hard not to have your brain run a bit wild, and this week in entertainment marketing provided some excellent material no matter what you’ve been thinking about these past few months of quarantine.

If your daydreams have led you to wonder what it would be like to bring a group of historical legends or the cast of your favorite ’90s sitcom together, you’ve come to the right place. If you are buzzing with anxiety or your thoughts can feel like a never-ending cat-and-mouse chase, we’ve got two sets of animated friends to help you out. Or perhaps you’ve been thinking about finally taking that cruise or just straight up wishing you had a fairy godmother to grant a few wishes.

Whatever you’ve been thinking, at least those thoughts are yours, and yours alone. Which you’ll learn can’t be said for everyone when you take a look at this week’s notable trailers and posters.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion

HBO Max
Trailer Agency: Open Road

If you can believe it, it’s been 30 years since a couple of guys who were up to no good started making trouble in the neighborhood, and well, you know the rest. Now, the Banks family is back in a reunion special for HBO Max. The trailer clues us in on what to expect as we see the almost-complete cast (RIP, Uncle Phil) together reminiscing and also uses great throwback graphics, show clips, and yes, that darn theme song to remind us why we are still singing it all these years later. Get ready to relive the magic of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when the special airs Nov. 19.

Tom & Jerry

Warner Bros.
Trailer Agency: Aspect

The famous archnemeses are back and taking on New York City in this new adaptation of Tom & Jerry. This trailer uses a fun pop soundtrack to bring these two into the new era and keeps the pacing as fast as their signature chase. It also does an excellent job of highlighting the film’s unique mix of live action and animation and of using sound effects to emphasize the trouble these two will get in when the movie comes to theaters in 2021.

Pieces of a Woman

Netflix
Trailer Agency: Open Road
Poster Agency: P+A

This emotionally searing piece is for Pieces of a Woman, a film about a young mother’s loss that gathered a lot of buzz on the festival circuit and is now coming to Netflix. Using a stirring Britney Howard track, “Short and Sweet,” what looks to be an incredible performance by Vanessa Kirby shines through as the pain of grief resonates strongly throughout this moving trailer. Kirby also fills the page on the dramatic poster. Pieces of a Woman comes to Netflix on Jan. 7.

Let Them All Talk

HBO Max
Trailer Agency: Mark Woollen & Associates
Poster Agency: N/A

Let Them All Talk is the latest from director Steven Soderberg and stars Meryl Streep as a famous author who takes a cruise with some old friends as she works on her latest novel. With its unique split-screen effects and quirky soundtrack, this trailer certainly has that Soderberg flair. Meryl’s facial expressions can truly speak a thousand words, which is more than apparent on the film’s poster. We’ll let these ladies talk when the film streams on HBO Max on Dec. 10.

One Night in Miami

Amazon Prime Video
Trailer Agency: AV Squad
Poster Agency: The Refinery

One Night in Miami is actress Regina King’s feature directorial debut and explores the fictional scenario of Cassius Clay, Malcolm X, Jim Brown and Sam Cooke all spending one night together. This trailer introduces the four performers taking on these iconic roles and gives us glimpses of real events while also getting the wheels in motion to ponder the “what-ifs” of these four men coming together. The fact that these men are American legends and a vital part of our country’s complicated history is highlighted by using Lecrae’s “Welcome to America” as the soundtrack to this high-energy piece. The poster underscores the film’s concept with a fun vintage feel. One Night in Miami starts streaming Jan. 15.

Big Mouth

Netflix
Trailer Agency: N/A

You know when a trailer opens with a character talking about their “pepperoni nipples,” it can only be one show—and yep, Big Mouth, the irreverent animated Netflix series, is making its return for Season 4. This season is all about anxiety, so it was a highly appropriate song choice to put Chic’s “Le Freak” in the background as we watch the cast freak out trying to battle Tito the Anxiety Mosquito. The terrific editing bops along with the tune and gets us ready for laughs to come when Big Mouth returns Dec. 4.

Godmothered

Disney+
Trailer Agency: N/A

Godmothered is a new comedy film that follows a young fairy godmother as she brings her magic to modern-day Boston. This whimsical trailer uses the ever sing-along-able “Take On Me” by A-Ha to showcase what happens when this fairy-godmother-in-training takes on her new reluctant subject. Magic is infused throughout the piece with sparkling graphics and inspiring copy. Godmothered starts streaming Dec. 4.

Chaos Walking

Lionsgate
Trailer Agency: N/A
Poster Agency: Leroy and Rose

In this piece for the post-apocalyptic film Chaos Walking, the propulsive sound design introduces us to the film’s concept of “the noise,” a supernatural force where all of men’s inner thoughts are put on display. This percussive soundtrack results in a trippy trailer that emphasizes the chaos that ensues when thoughts are no longer private. The eye-catching poster features the film’s star power with Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland bookending the page. No official date has been set, but Chaos Walking is coming soon.
